Saskatchewan Waterfowl Hunts at Champetre County Outpost

Why is Champetre County Famous for Waterfowl Hunting?

Obviously having a consistent and reliable population of birds is the top factor. This is due to a combination of geographic location, farming practices, and terrain. There is an abundance of pea farming and barley farming which are the favored food sources for waterfowl The terrain is slightly rolling hills which creates pothole sloughs in every field which is just heaven for ducks. The geographic location is central in one of North America's main migration flyways. On a migration route, when birds encounter both an abundance of food and an abundance of roosting water, they pause their migration to rest and feed for several days to several weeks. Through the course of a fall hunting season, we will actually see six to seven "migration hops" where a group of birds (say 200,000 to 500,000 all decide to push on to the next stop point. At the same time, a batch of new birds comes in from the north, typically within the same day. During these "migration hops", the bird feeding locations change significantly from one set of fields to another.

The last factor in making Champetre County Famous for Waterfowl Hunting is Prairie Rose Outfitters. We are knowledgeable in the area. We know the landowners by name and by handshake, and we invest the time and effort to put hunters on fields where the birds will be. We have shot 3 TV shows in the past 3 years (With Ducks Unlimited TV and Ram Outdoorsman) and we are proud of high return rate among our client base. We invite you to see why Champetre County is famous for Waterfowl Hunting.

On September 29th, 2010, the crew from Ducks Unlimited TV arrived at Champetre County Outpost to shoot an episode with Prairie Rose Outfitters. The on camera team of Mike Checkett and Huntley Ritter were joined by DU Canada CEO Jeff Nelson for three days of duck and goose hunting east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We set the DU TV crew, with their array of camera gear, in 5 seperate well scouted locations ranging from small potholes with several dozen floater decoys to snow goose field shoots with nearly 1000 decoys deployed. To say that they had enough footage is an understatement. Day One set the crew in two different duck pond locations. Day Two split the morning and afternoon between a Canada Goose field shoot and a Snow Goose field shoot. Day Three was a field of truly mixed bag hunting with Snows, Canadas and Mallards. Click on the images above. Once a broadcast date for the episode is set we will post the dates here. Sign up for our mailing list and you'll be sure to hear about it.
